The 2nd World Wood Day (WWD) International Competition for Children's Writing Composition
Result Announcement
Message from the Jury
This year’s World Wood Day International Competition of Children's Writing Composition for Elementary School Students was held for the first time. Number of submissions was limited due to it being a first time competition. However, all submitted works were written with great effort and we would like to thank all the entries once again for your submissions. This writing composition competition was not an exam and writing examples were not solicited. Therefore, the thoughts and ideas of the authors were considered in the judging process without focusing particularly on the quality of the writing.

The entries were broadly divided into two categories: those that resemble fairy tales and those that resemble short essays. The awarded works were representative of each category. The accuracy of knowledge and information would be questioned in an essay style which may be disadvantageous. Although the two styles differ, they all offer suggestions to how we should consider the relationship between forests and trees by expanding them from familiar places and interests.
Theme
The Forest is A Green Microcosm: I Want to Play in Such a Forest; I Want to Go to Such a Forest
Purpose

Grand Prize
(Representative Director of Japan Wood Culture Society Award)
"A Night Festival of Shining Forest"
Momoko Noiri (4th Grade Student)

Read the writing

“A Night Festival of Shining Forest" is a work depicting a fairy tale style.
The idea of a festival in the woods is fun, but it's also entertaining that animals open the shops and guide visitors. It is said that you can use "nuts" instead of money at their shops. It makes us think about how we should repay the amount that we were entertained in the forest. It is a work that best fits the theme of "I want to play in such a forest, I want to go to such a forest".
Runner-up
(Chair of International Wood Culture Society Award)

Runner-up
(Chair of World Wood Day Foundation Award)
"An Exciting Green Square"
Ayano Hayakawa (4th Grade Student)

Read the writing

"Forests are important to people and to me," she said, adding that the importance is not only to produce what is needed, but also to be able to learn about nature and have fun playing. She describes how she wants to enjoy herself, such as relaxing or exercising, and suggests that she can easily enter the forests based on her own interests. The phrase "It's my own room without a roof" is impressive. This work is in line with the purpose of this competition as it shows how to grow "interest in forests and wood".
